Synergy - Mens & Womenswear - Automne/Hiver 2011-12 (Mudpie)

Publié le

Synergy marks a new era of pragmatism, simplicity and efficiency, as a fresh model for living is sought across the globe, after decades of excess and heady capitalism

Innovative design meets a classic Scandinavian aesthetic for precision and minimalism that still retains a sense of warmth and homeliness. The traditions and architecture of the Nordic states inspires a contemporary look.

phase 1: regeneration

For youth-driven collections, Regeneration draws inspiration from urban metropolitan landscapes. In graphics and prints building motifs are key for younger designs; in boy’s themes we repair, and in girl’s we redecorate our environments. Meanwhile, a clean and contemporary style encompasses graffiti fonts and urban aesthetics for pre-teens. Taking further inspiration from the Nordic States, the Northern Lights encourage vibrant gradient effects and linear splashes of colour. Prints use swirling and geometric forms, resulting in precise yet radiant creations.

The urban aesthetic continues into garment shapes; denim jeans are seen with dropped crotches and in boyfriend styles, in muted icy tones for both boys and girls. Typically Scandinavian, eccentric layering and proportion play attribute to the trend. Androgynous oversized knits and boxy jackets are worn long over super-skinny jeans.

Rolled-up trousers, outsize separates and subtly draped outerwear appears slung-on in a haphazard fashion. Outfits are pulled together with narrow belts, or given a sporting twist with visible zips and drawstring hems.

phase 2: collectivism

Oversized knits and coat-like cardigans ascribe to the warm, comforting nature of the trend. Catering to the mid-winter season, layering is key; combining light and heavy weight textiles echoes the eccentric, eclectic Scandinavian aesthetic. Gathered, paper bag waists and sporadic pockets and patches make their way on to denim. Shapes are casual yet versatile, while distressing and fading is kept to a minimum.

A modern approach to tradition culminates in Collectivism’s dynamic vision. Stitched and appliqué effects, alongside sewn on buttons and patchwork add to the handcrafted, customised focus of the trend, albeit in a contemporary context. Block stencil effects, precise string art embroideries and laser cut patterns bring graphics and prints up to date.

Clubs and activities feature strongly in graphics, reflecting the community spirit integral to Collectivism. Patterned knitwear features cute motifs, while older collections develop using mix and match patterns.

phase 3: resolve

Reiterating the need for new lifestyle models, Resolve focuses on a considered, pared down yet indulgent aesthetic. Graphics and prints have a clean yet hand-drawn appearance. Mountain scenes and naïve winter animals bring younger graphics to life, while for tween ranges winter sports are a reoccurring influence.

For boys, a sustainable future provides further inspiration, with eco concerns and materials generating tree planting scenes, and motivating typography.

Luxury all-in-ones and co-ordinated sets echo the non-sporty basics found in older collections, while for older boys, soft jersey hooded tops and matching bottoms are worn under further layers of cocoon-like knits and outerwear.
