Catwalks, details and must haves knitwear - Spring/Summer 2021 (Fashion For Breakfast)

Publié le
13 oct. 2020

For the S/S 21 season stylists are hitting the runway with their new proposals in knitwear. As for lines, we have garments of athletic inspiration that break away from the world of sportswear and transform into everyday trends: the athletic top, the classic fitted tank top with round neckline, is embellished with applications and is worn with skirts and trousers creating a very elegant effect, whereas the polo shirt is very feminine thanks to semi seethrough and elegant knit models.

We also see inspiration from the world of lingerie with bodysuits taking centre stage on the runway and standing out with structured shapes and glitter fabrics.

Vests, fit knitted dresses and knit sets are just as popular on the runway, giving knitwear special femininity distinguished by a general sensation of comfort and softness.
But at Fashion for Breakfast we have also analysed the patterns and details that complete the knitwear of S/S21.

The hippie atmosphere is brought back to life with crochet sweaters that, with their woven patterns, celebrate craftsmanship and manual work, while the more modern netting is back on the catwalk to create effects of layering and transparencies.

Transparencies are also featured in the “see-through” models that, as the name suggests, are distinguished as super light, shimmer and fine fabrics that let the underwear to show through.
The beauty of the female form is emphasized by added sensual and delicate details that replicate the curves of the breast on garments such as tops, sweaters and dresses, resembling classic bustiers.

Femininity is also emphasized by alternating empty and solid that play on garments showing limited parts of the body: the knot, for example, is one the details that cut the knitwear creating movement in the shapes, while small round holes on the garments unexpectedly showing little areas of skin.

Ribbed knitwear is very popular on the runway, as it provides an instant chic touch to every garment, while, moving on to the more bulky heavy summer knits, we have over-size sweaters with a heavy or thicker look to create structured garments. The heavier knitwear features the detail of extra long sleeves, that wrap the arm almost covering the entire hand.
